Ocean scenes in Northern California and her foreign travels are often sources of inspiration for Carolyn Jarvis' paintings.

She is captivated by the process and challenge of creating colorful, spontaneous paintings that attempt to capture the outdoor light. She has been using a palette knife instead of brushes in recent oil paintings because she likes the freshness and color vibrancy. For three years, she studied color, composition and oil painting techniques with artist Van Waldron, who had been a student of the famous Russian master painter, Sergei Bongart. She has also been influenced by French Impressionism artists.

Carolyn has won numerous awards in shows sponsored by the Alamo-Danville Artists’ Society, Las Juntas Artists, Sonoma County Harvest Fairs, Sonoma County Fairs and Valley Art Gallery. She has shown her paintings in Sonoma County, California at the following places: Balletto Vineyards, St. Francis Winery, Chateau Diana Winery, Sebastopol Center for Arts, Sebastopol Apple Blossom Festivals, Sonoma County Harvest Festivals, Sonoma County Fairs, Artisans' Co-op Gallery in Bodega, Hand Goods in Occidental and Windsor Arts Council Gallery. Her paintings have been shown in Valley Art Gallery, Walnut Creek, California from 2004 to the present time.
